SYNOPSIS of Wicked:
The film adaptation of “Wicked” draws inspiration from the acclaimed Broadway musical, which itself is based on Gregory Maguire’s 1995 novel, “Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch.”
Similar to the stage version, with music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and a book by Winnie Holzman, the movie follows the intertwined lives of Elphaba and Glinda (short for Galinda), portrayed by Ariana Grande, in the magical Land of Oz. The narrative begins with the demise of Elphaba, known as the Wicked Witch of the West, as Glinda, the Good Witch, opens with the memorable song “No One Mourns the Wicked.” The story then unfolds through Glinda’s reflections on their experiences at Shiz University, a vibrant campus featuring a charming castle reminiscent of Disney’s aesthetic.
“Wicked” is scheduled to be available on various streaming services, including Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, Fandango at Home (formerly Vudu), Comcast Xfinity, Cox, and Microsoft Movies & TV, starting Tuesday, December 31. Additionally, the film will be released on 4K UHD, Blu-ray™, and DVD on February 4, 2025.
